Gift of Friends

Jason and Falon think their troubles are over when they reach the Valtair system. Little did they realize that the Underworld wanted the bio-tech in their bodies, a pimp lord wanted to possess Falon, and the Empire was laying in wait. Friends appear in unexpected places: Rogar, a renegade lawyer even the Empire respects, Tribarrel, a Marine cyborg retiree thrown away by the Empire, Brad, an underworld tainted shipyard owner using Jason’s own superior tech to enhance pirate ships, Fred, the ship AI’s multiple identities, and others all pull together to put them on the path to salvation. Jason, Falon, and Fred have to not just survive their unwanted upgrades, but learn to use them to their fullest ability to break free. In the process they trigger a system wide revolution.

The Order of the Crystal Shield trains Operatives to subvert and control governments, planets, and solar systems through a wide range of tactics ranging from assassination, terrorism to seduction. He rises to a position of importance among the student ranks while hiding his origins.

The backdrop for the intrigue and struggles that he undergoes is a multiracial society based on the direct manipulation of energies through a complex mathematical science they call the Power.
